Members Update July 2026

We're over halfway through 2026 and what a year.  We have positive feedback from the last email. Not perfect as some club members didn't receive it. As always, we give things a go, take feedback and improve what and how we do things. It's better than aiming for perfection and achieving little (Neal's opinion only haha!)

On a serious note, the GSG committee has decided to handover full control of 'The Plains' Saturday gaming venue to the leaders of that venue: Glen, Chris and Nick. They have done an incredible job of developing a great community and we wish them the best of luck.

Memberships will still be honoured across all sites and all gaming will continue as normal. Any further questions, please speak to Neal or Glen

Recent Successes

Miniature Swap Meet

Saturday 27th June saw an amazing swap meet at The Plains. The Nick Chase had around 70 (yep, 70!) people buying and selling their minis, games and books. An amazing event, well done!

Warmachine Slow Grow

Callan has picked up Warmachine Mk4 after a hiatus and really brought the community together, games are looking amazing and we're looking forward to seeing the continued growth and return of the game.

Dungeons & Dragons

Shoutout to Scott for running some amazing Dungeons & Dragons for teens over recent months. If you've been to Goodna and heard the laughter coming from a back room, its amazing. Sessions are completely full.

Special shoutout to

Jason Cowern with Epic Warpath campaign

Dave Eden with CY_BORG and continued support of roleplaying games

We surely have missed some events with all the gaming happening - please send an email if you have something you would like included in the next Member Update.

Board game review: Azul

Azul may be a familiar game to you all, but it is certainly worth a revisit!  This is a game we regularly use to introduce board games to novice players.

The core of the game is to draft ‘tiles’ from a central pool (tile factory) while trying not to waste material, while you work within the game constraints and your competitor’s choices to make your patterns and tile your wall before all materials are exhausted.

This original game is now 9 years old, it now has some fantastic new variations: -

Azul Stained Glass of Sintra (2018)

Azul Summer Pavillion (2019)

Azul Queens Garden (2021)

Azul Master Chocolatier (2022)

Azul Duel (2025)

Expansions:

Azul Crystal Mosaic (2019)

Azul Glazed Pavillion (2021)

5211: Azul – a card based spin off

Thanks to Sarah Barrett for sending through this review

Upcoming Events

Great news everyone! SpringCon is and is shaping up to be our best yet!  So far we've got:

  • Traders

  • Wargaming tournament

  • Board Game demos

  • 3 local clubs getting involved

We are still on the lookout for food vendors and working on Live Action Roleplaying for some outside play.

In conjunction with Brisbane Social RPG, we are hosting an afternoon of roleplaying with this mini-RPG convention.

Brisbane Social RPG, about the group:

This group exists for those people who can't or don't want to play the same RPG week in and week out. Or maybe you do - but can't find a regular group?

The games we play are "low investment" - in time, effort, and money. Perfect for busy people, casual gamers, shift workers, parents, and beginners. You might be busy with work / school / kids / life and yet you still want to play an RPG with other humans now and then.

Our mission is to be active in facilitating games that have low barriers to entry and which are flexible and fit into people's lives - breaking the norms around TTRPGs to develop an inclusive and engaged community who are provided frequent, open, and safe opportunities to play.

With 5x games to choose from and free entry for GSG members, it's lining up to be a pretty special afternoon of roleplaying.  Tickets available below
