Diversity and Inclusion Policy

Springfield Gamers supports its members by providing an inclusive, culturally capable and diverse gaming space that reflects the communities we serve and the values of everyday Australians.


The goal of this policy is to create an inclusive culture that promotes the wellbeing of our members irrespective of family responsibilities, marital status, age, disability, race, religion, political beliefs, gender identity or sexuality.


Springfield Gamers is committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment and victimisation through promoting an inclusive and respectful culture.


1. Purpose
This policy outlines the Committee’s commitment to providing a gaming space that embraces diversity and inclusion.  


2. Scope
This policy applies to all members attending club meetings organised by Springfield Gamers, including outside events and meetings.


3. Legislation and Policy
This policy should be read in conjunction with:

  • Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)

  • Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 (Cwlth)

  • Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cwlth)

  • Disability Services Act 2006 (Qld)

  • Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld)

  • Multicultural Recognition Act 2016 (Qld)

  • Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cwlth)

  • Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cwlth)


4. What is Diversity
Diversity includes characteristics such as age, ethnicity, gender, intellectual and/or physical ability, cultural background, sexual orientation, gender identity, or intersex status.


Diversity also refers to less visible aspects, such as education, socioeconomic background, faith, marital status, family responsibilities, thinking styles, experience and work styles.

5. Responsibilities
The Committee values diversity and inclusion as a key people management priority.  Embracing a culture of diversity and inclusion is not only the right thing to do; it enables members to feel safe and valued; leading to greater engagement, satisfaction, innovation and enjoyment.


The Springfield Gamers Committee (hereafter referred to as “The Committee”) will:

  • Build on existing approaches, to foster diversity of thinking, and a deep appreciation of understanding and serving a diverse community. ï‚·

  • Demonstrate inclusive practices and model constructive behaviours that promote diversity and inclusion practices.ï‚·

  • Communicate the importance of diversity and inclusion and promote appropriate standards of conduct at all times.

  • Apply ethical decision-making in circumstances related to membership and diversity and inclusion targets.
  • Champion, lead and promote inclusion and diversity through inclusive leadership and modelling behaviours.

 

Members will:

  • Respect individual differences and treat all people with dignity.ï‚·

  • Contribute to the creation of an inclusive environment that values and utilises the input of people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. ï‚·

  • Be aware of all their responsibilities under the Preventing bullying, sexual harassment and unlawful discrimination policy, and how they relate to the principles of diversity and inclusion.


6. Outcomes
Our members are able to participate fully and be the best they can be. Springfield Gamers Club embraces the unique diversity, skills and qualities of our members to assist us in developing a safe, equitable, culturally appropriate and inclusive environment. We strive for excellence, for inclusivity and to be known as a “safe space” in the local community.


Our members are treated fairly and with respect.  We treat everyone fairly and equitably and we acknowledge our members have a wealth of knowledge, skills and capabilities. We consistently demonstrate appropriate behaviours; we listen, engage, and understand each other and respond appropriately to their individual needs and changing circumstances.


We are all responsible for diversity and inclusion. The building and modelling of positive, respectful and inclusive behaviour, and the valuing of diversity and diversity of opinions within our club is vital to ensuring a constructive culture. Diversity and inclusion is everybody’s responsibility and everyone should understand and be committed to the role they play.


We are accountable and monitor and measure performance. The Committee are accountable for diversity and inclusion outcomes. Members demonstrate commitment to achieving outcomes through promoting and reinforcing positive inclusive behaviours and through diversity inclusion reporting.
